Week 4 – Andy’s German Schwarzwalder Kirschtorte (Black forest gateau)

Andy kept us all in suspense by leaving his masterpiece covered until tasting time. This Schwarzwalder Kirschtorte impressed with both the presentation and taste. It had cherries flowing down one side and a perfectly smooth and shiny layer of chocolate ganache covering the sponge cake. There were also cherries throughout the cake mixed in with the cream layers between the sponges. This rich cake got bonus points for filling us up through to lunch!Andy.jpg

Week 5 – Sri’s American Red Velvet Cake

Sri continued to raise the bar in the competition by presenting us with a delicious red velvet cake topped with cream cheese icing. The sponge was red in colour, light and fluffy and went well with the thick icing. After a late evening and slight lack of confidence Sri successfully managed to really impress us all with her tasty cake. Shola is up next!Sri.jpg

Week 6 – Shola’s Russian Pryaniki (Honey Spice Cookies)

This week Shola took a risk with his Pryaniki. The recipe includes a lot of coffee which is an interesting choice for someone who doesn’t like the flavour! These tasty cookies were covered in a layer of icing which gave a crunchy texture to the otherwise soft and airy dough.  Shola definitely impressed even with his lack of baking knowledge and they were so good people were keen to go back for seconds straight away!
