You will learn to love Spreadsheets if you don’t already!

With every project comes the promise of a number of detailed spreadsheets. There will be numerous reasons why a spreadsheet is the most suitable document to use. Pros include conditional formatting to help sort information, formulas to do most of the hard work, clear order in rows and columns and choice between a variety of different graphs! I could go on but I’ll let you find out for yourselves.

Communication and collaboration is key when working in a team

Every project requires a team of people who must communicate and collaborate to complete the task. When working in a team each person is likely to have their own ideas and opinions and throughout your agency life it is likely that you will have to work with people who work in different ways to you. The key to working well together is efficient communication to ensure people know their role and to keep everyone up to date with what is happening.

‘Would you like tea or coffee?’

Without a doubt you’ll get a positive response to this offer whatever time of day!

There are always new pitches to be prepared for

In a successful agency there will often be new pitches to be prepared for which need new ideas, strategies and inspiration. Each pitch can be for a new or different industry than the last and they require in depth research into the company so you can see what needs improving and how your agency can help.

You must provide designers with a detailed brief if you’re looking for something specific

If you have an idea in your head of what you want something to look like you have to give the designers the details, they can’t guess what you’re thinking!

Get used to working on multiple projects at any one time

During a day’s work you will often work on a number of different projects, switching between them throughout the day. This is a skill you will soon pick up when working in an agency.

It will become natural to keep track of everything you do hour by hour

Before I started working at an agency the idea of billable and non-billable hours was alien to me. Timesheets are used to keep track of what you do, for how long and for which client.

Team lunches are great!

Here at Obergine we go out for a team lunch every Thursday and each week it is a different person’s choice of where to go. This makes a nice change from the regular meal deal or lunch bought from home. It is a chance for everyone to relax and be together outside of the work environment.

Google it!

Be prepared to use Google every day without fail, it’s likely to be your best friend if it isn’t already!

It’s easy to get obsessed with looking at website traffic and sales

This includes watching ‘real time’ website traffic to see how many people are on the website throughout the day as well as watching sales go up on retail websites. You won’t understand until you try it for yourself!

The desk situation

Your organised, ordered desk is likely to look like an unorganised mess to others in the office. They might question how you keep track of everything but remember everyone works in different ways.

Relaxed work environments are the way forward...

This helps to build friendships with colleagues, keep stress levels to a minimum and get high quality work done.

Treats!

Lastly, you’ll end up eating more cake, biscuits, chocolate and sweets than ever before, there’s always an excuse, but you won’t often need one!
