As cliché as it sounds, time has gone unbelievably fast and I can’t quite believe I’ve finished my placement at Obergine. I’ve had the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of work, been given some big responsibilities and have learnt a huge amount.

I expected to spend the first few weeks at least doing less important and less exciting jobs (I think most people do when they begin a placement!). However, I was pleasantly surprised when I was given important tasks to do on my second day, for example a competitor analysis for one of our clients. 
There have been a few ongoing jobs throughout the year such as tweeting for Obergine and a client, monthly Twitter reports, link building, writing blog posts and blogger outreach.

Below is a list of some of the work I have been involved in:

  • Blogger and influencer outreach – researching and getting in contact with bloggers and influencers to invite them to an event or to visit the store, ask them to review a product or experience. Throughout the year I contacted a large number of bloggers to get product and store reviews for a client in Oxford. 
  • Organising an opening event for a new cafe – I was heavily involved with this whole project from helping to come up with ideas of how to market the event, inviting guests including bloggers, influencers and local press and writing the press releases 
  • Competitor review and analysis - analysing main competitors of a client and looking at what they are/aren’t doing well in terms of the website, branding, social media etc. This helps to give an insight into how similar companies work and what works well. 
  • Website analytics  - it has been interesting seeing the ‘behind the scenes’ of different websites, seeing things like how many people are on a website at a time, the most popular products and how people reach the site.
  • Thorough research 
  • Link Building – can require long sessions of tedious research exploring google but gaining more links to a website is worth it in the end
  • Tweeting and writing monthly Twitter reports
  • Blogging – writing regular blog posts for Obergine as well as for other clients.
  • HTML – using code to enter content onto new websites 
  • Pitch preparation – from interpreting the brief and doing initial research to putting together the presentation
  • Events – attending events like trade shows to find new potential business

My time at Obergine was most definitely not all work no play. Thursday team lunches gave us all time to have non work related conversations as well as try out most of the restaurants in Oxford. The picture used on this post is of us at laser quest before we went for an all you can eat buffet as one of our social activities. We also had a great few weeks of cake Wednesday when the Great International Bake Off was in full swing.

I’ll be back at university in September and I’m excited to continue learning new skills and get even more of an insight into the digital marketing world.
